    Founder Bio

Catherine Lawrence, founder of InsideArtnyc, is a New York Art Historian and Lecturer with double MA degrees in Art History from Hunter College, CUNY and International Education from Columbia University, Teacher’s College. She has taught Art History and English at Columbia University, Cornell University, Hunter College, CUNY Graduate Center and most recently at the NY Institute of Technology. She developed and taught special courses for the American Language Program at Columbia University, including “The History of American Musical Theatre” and “American Art, Culture and Ideas,” a humanities class based on the visual arts and designed as an introduction to American history and culture.

Catherine has lectured extensively at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in its permanent collections and special exhibitions and has led hundreds of tours at other large and small New York museums and galleries. She worked as a Curatorial Research Assistant in the American Wing of the Metropolitan Museum for the 2003 exhibition, “Hudson River School Visions, the Landscapes of Sanford R. Gifford.” In 2007, Catherine founded InsideArtnyc. She has lectured at public schools, universities, libraries, civic centers, cultural organizations and retirement communities to groups ranging from high school and university students to professional business and community leaders and senior citizens.
